85th Anniversary of Birth of Nils Ferlin, poet - Sweden Maximum Card
Nils Johan Einar Ferlin was born in Karlstad on 11 December 1898. When Ferlin was 10 years old, his family moved to Filipstad and the Bergmästargården manor near the church. His poetry debut came in 1930 with En döddansares visor(songs of a death dancer). Many other poems and other works soon followed. Composers frequently set Nils Ferlin´s poems to music. For a while Ferlin was an actor, and he also wrote song lyrics. In Stockholm, Nils Ferlin was one of the leading names in the bohemian quarter, but in the final years of his life he lived in the quiet Roslagen archipelago north of the capital city. The beloved poet left this world on 21 October 1961, but his memory lives on through his poems.
