Personalised Smilers Stamp Sheet for the Virtual Stamp Club - 2008Personalised stamp sheets were intended for consumer use to add something extra to social correspondence, but many were also produced by organisations such as philatelic societies both for sale as sheets or singles, and also as event covers as fundraisers.
This sheet was commissioned by the Virtual Stamp Club an online discussion forum based in the USA but wiht memebrship worldwide. It was originally (in 1996!) Delphi's Stamps/Coins/Postal Forum, and although that forum continues under a different name most of the discussions are still there, and mighty entertaining they can be too. Now there is just a website and it is more centred on US matters than before.
These self-adhesive sheets were produced for and most were sold to staff (moderators) and were made available for members to buy. FDCs were also produced with single stamps, coinciding with the Air Displays stamps of July 2008. The 'Hello' stamps were firs issued in the 2005 Smilers stamp retail booklet; these stamps have elliptical perforations at the sides as in the 3rd Smilers booklet issued in 2008 (SG 2819 - each stamp is catalogued at £5.50).
The marginal personalisation was printed after the sheets were delivered by Royal Mail.
