Product Description
Dahomey was renamed The People's Republic of Benin on 30 November 1975. Stamps were variously overprinted and overprinted and surcharged, some with the full name, some with just 'DU BENIN' and some with 'BENIN'.This cover has with all three types, only one of which i have been able to find in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue. It was sent from Cotonou to England in late 1994, but the reuse of Dahomey stamps was not apparently in any way choronological.
The stamps at top left are SG 1003, overprinted Republique Populaire due Benin and surcharged 90/140fr.
The pair at the top are some of Dahomey's oldest, which Michel lists as being issued in 1994, simply overprinted BENIN with their existing 100fr value retained.
The single Apollo-Soyuz stamp at the foot is overprinted DU BENIN and its value reduced from 500fr to 20fr.
