England's Participation in the World Cup Soccer Finals - 21 May 2002
To mark the involvement of the England team in the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea, Royal Mail issued a single 1st class stamp and a miniature sheet of 5 stamps. The tournament wase held at 200 stadiums in Japan and South Korea between 31 May and 30 June.
The sheet 1st class stamp is an adaptation of the 1st class England definitive stamp, and shows a Crowned Lion and the Shield of St George in blue, with the Queen's head printed in red.
The miniature sheet includes this stamp, and a block of four 1st class stamps with a composite design of footballs against the St George flag of England. The flag has the slogan 'WORLD CUP 2002' repeated across it in light grey-blue.
