Great Picture
"great picture even if flames added for effect. A reminder that newspapers did not print picture so Picture Postcards were very important" Roger Dedman - 07 November 2014
Product Description
YorkshireThe Great Fire of Leeds, 1906
Flames have been added to enhance the effect - which is very dramatic - but the fireman's ladder is leaning against the first level windows at the left, and the hoses are still there.
25th July 1906. The fire took place at no. 25 Wellington Street, by the junction with Thirsk Row, a warehouse building occupied by J. Hepworth & Son Ltd., wholesale clothiers. The warehouse, which dated from 1881, had to be completely rebuilt, and continued to be occupied by Hepworths until the 1920s.
