6 April 2004 - Entente Cordiale Joint Issue with France - Norvic FDC - Edition of 30The Centenary of the Entente Cordiale between the United Kingdom and France was commemorated by Royal Mail and La Poste by the issue of a set of two stamps in both countries, featuring contemporary British and French paintings.
The 28p and 0,75euro stamps feature 'Lace 1 (trial proof) 1968' by Sir Terry Frost, while the 57p and 0,50 euro stamps show 'Coccinelle' by Sonia Delaunay.
The Norvic limited edition cover shows the crossed flags of the two nations, Big Ben at the Houses of Parliament and Eiffel Tower, and the Concorde Anglo-French supersonic airliner.
The French stamps are cancelled with the Paris first day postmark showing crossed flags.
We have a choice of postmarks on the UK stamps:
- a Bristol postmark showing Concorde
- a London postmark showing the crossed flags (similar to the Paris postmark)
- a postmark of Parliament Square, London, showing Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower
