The South-West Prospect of Yarmouth 1741 by Samuel & Nathaniel BuckDetail from a print.
Norfolk Nelson Museum card #4
After the Battle of the Nile Rear Admiral Nelson stayed in Italy helping the King of Naples, and returned to England via Germany. On the 6th November 1800 he made a triumphant return to England following his glorious victory. Greeted by ecstatic crowds of fellow Norfolk men and women, Nelson took his first steps back on English soil at Yarmouth and was given the Freedom of the Borough. The town must have been much the same as shown here.
