22 May 2000 - The Stamp Show 2000 Smilers SheetRoyal Mail entered the world of Personalised Stamps in 2000 at this international stamp exhibition, with the first of what was to be a long series of Smilers Sheets, A4 sheets with ordinary gum. (Later sheets were self-adhesive.)
The stamps are the ones originally issued 20p Greetings stamps in 1990, and as 1st class stamps in 1991.
These sheets were printed by Questa in gravure.
This first day cover is a plain envelope with the stamps from the sheet, alongside is the caption from the sheet. The stamps are cancelled with the Earls Court London Stamp Show postmark. These are not common because many people did not know that the sheets would be available at the show.
