6 February 2017 - 65th Anniversary of the Accession of Queen Elizabeth II
Unlike in previous anniversary years, where the Post Office and Royal Mail produced a range of attractive commemorative sets, for this 65th anniversary they have chosen to issue a single definitive with a value of £5. Usually £5 definitives are not sold in post office branches because there is a preference for the use of a postage label. It is unclear where this will be sold, other than from philatelic outlets, but it is intended as a long-term replacement for the 2009 small Machin
as it has a year code incorporated into the iridescent printing.
This reads '65TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ACCESSION' with ESSION changed to E17ION at the top right of the stamp. It is possible that this will be reprinted in 2018 etc with new codes.
The SG catalogue number for this may be U3023, the next number in the sequence of ordinary gummed security stamps, but that would leave no room for intermediate values after £1.33 as postage rates changed.
The Norvic number is 4500.
