Penny Red 175th Anniversary first day cover
In 2016, Royal Mail celebrated 500 years of operating a regular, organised postal service. It was also the 175th anniversary of the change from 1d black to 1d red-brown.
This was marked by the inclusion of 1s red stamps alongside 1d black and 2d blue in a Prestige Stamp Book, a retail booklet of 6 x 1d red self-adhesive stamps, and a generic Smilers Sheet containing 20 x 1d red stamps and associated labels.
This Royal Mail 500 first day cover has the set of three gummed stamps from the PSB, a single from the retail booklet and a single with label from the Smilers sheet, all cancelled with a Bath Somerset Maltese cross special one-day postmark.
