5 June 2017 - Machin 50th Anniversary horizontal 1st class orange from Golden Anniversary MS
First issued in 1993 this Walsall-printed stamp was a short-lived self-adhesive experiment. It was quickly found that postmarks could be removed from the original stamps, and as time has passed it seems that the adhesive has hardened and the stamps are impossible to remove from the card backing paper.
As revised version was issued in 1997 with the 2nd class: the figures of value are larger, and the printing is by Enschede.
This is the only time the horizontal stamp has been printed on ordinary gummed paper.
This is not a new stamp in the SG Concise Catalogue level as only the miniature sheet is catalogued. It may be mentioned as a footnote, or in the Specialised catalogue.
