17 July 2008 Air Displays Smilers
This year marks the centenary of the United Kingdom's first powered flight which was undertaken by the American, Samuel Franklin Cody. This took place at Farnborough in British Army Aircraft One. It is also the 60th anniversary of the Farnborough International Air Show.
To mark the centenary Royal Mail have produced a Smilers Generic Sheet 100 Years of Aviation containing 20 x 1st class Red Arrows stamps from the Air Displays set, with a range of labels from Samuel Cody, through the Bristol Bulldog, Cierva autogyro, English Electirc Lightning, Sikorsky R-4, Airbus A380, Eurofighter Typhoon, and Supermarine Spitfire.
This stamp is litho printed by Cartor, whereas the set is printed in gravure by De La Rue so this is a totally different stamp.
